Twigs on Snow, Abbas Kiarostami

Although not strictly painting conservation, Valentine retouched a water damaged giclee print by Abbas Kiarostami, the Iranian filmmaker. The giclee was dripped on whilst standing upside down. The drips therefore apprea to be running upwards. Treatment entailed retouching to match the background and repainting the ink dots in order to disguise the water damage. These photographs are notoriously suspect to water damage and the retouching had to match each ink dot produced by the printing technique. The images below show the damage before and after treatement.

Before showing drips. The giclee was upside down when the water was splashed and therefore the splashes are running from bottom to top in these photos.
